Strive for Healthy Weight Loss, Not Just Instant Results
Being overweight is becoming a constant concern for a large percentage of people in Western society. Many people are experimenting with all forms of diets. drugs, equipment, and exercise routines.
With a new weight loss method being introduced nearly every week, it's difficult to determine safe and sensible ones from potentially dangerous methods. So while many Americans are striving to regain their slim figures and self-confidence, it is important to realize not all of those magical diet aids are good for you in the long run.
It's necessary to realize that healthy weight loss can only be attained (and maintaned) by following a sensible diet combined with some sort of exercise routine. Despite this long-known wisdom, we live in an instant world, depending on instant solutions for everything.
We're constantly bombarded with an endless succession of ads and infomercials for miracle diet pills, exercise equipment, and new diet plans. Unfortunately, most of these don't lead to healthy weight loss. The majority of them cause you to lose more water and/or muscle than fat, which might make you look thinner, but it creates problems for your body.
This is where the various low-carbohydrate/high-protein diets excel. Low-carb diets promote slow, steady fat loss while promoting muscle growth. Low-carb diets also have a built-in regulator against dehydration — if you start getting constipated, you're not drinking enough.
Typical weight loss for low-carb plans is between 6–12 pounds per month. Extremely obese people may lose more than that during the first few months on the plan, but most people fall into the average range. Slow weight loss is better because it's less of a shock to your body, and it also allows the skin to tighten along with your figure to prevent flaps and wrinkles, which are often indicators of rapid and potentially unsafe fat loss.
The high protein also provides an excellent foundation for any exercise plan you follow. If you're getting enough protein (determine your minimum daily requirements in the book Protein Power), once you've lost all the excess fat, you should be a strong, shapely, and sexy individual and not a rail-thin, sickly-looking weakling.
